Seems a lot of people are afraid to remove their factory stereo from their vehicles these days. Dealer giving you crap about it being the brain of the vehicle, horror stories of people setting off thier air bags, GM data bus problems, etc... Heck, even Crutchfield says you can't mount a double DIN stereo in a Trailblazer, but then again, Crutchfield doesn't sell all these parts! Anyways, here is what you will need to mount an after-market stereo in your 2006 Trailblazer SS: Step 1 - Vehicle Stereo Harness Adaptor: Trailblazer SS with Bose & Onstar. This device will retain Onstar functionality and work with Bose amplifier system built into vehicle. Peripheral GMAH24B PriceGrabberFroogleMfg Websiteis also resold under the Scosche brand of car stereo products: Scosche Onstar Interface for Class 2 vehicles with Bose sound system (GM06 version): PriceGrabberFroogleMfg WebsiteStep 2 - Stereo Dash Kit American International GM-K420 Single DIN Dash Kit: PriceGrabberBuy.comFroogleAmazon.comMfg WebsiteScosche GM1590B GM Double DIN Dash Kit: Note: You may need to cut the plastic factory stereo bracket out of your vehicle to make a 2x DIN stereo fit. PriceGrabberBuy.comAmazon.comFroogleMfg WebsiteStep 3 - Factory Antenna Adaptor You'll need this adaptor to adapt the GM antenna plug to fit your after market stereo. American International GM6 Antenna Adaptor: PriceGrabberBuy.comAmazon.comFroogleMfg WebsiteRemember to eject any CD's from your factory stereo and disconnect your car battery prior to removing your factory stereo. Buy a pack of butt crimps (look like little plastic tubes) from your local hardware store such as Lowes for wiring up your stereo harness to the vehicle harness adaptor. Follow the chart included with the vehicle harness adaptor/stereo manual for connecting the wires up. Disregard the portion that claims the Bose system cannot fade from front to back (it works just fine) just wire up the rear speakers like normal. Shown with: Alpine IVA-W200 in Trailblazer SS, PAC SWI-ALP steering wheel control interface, Alpine Ipod High Speed Cable, XM extension cable from xmfanstore.com (item 20EXT) to adapt factory XM antenna plug to Alpine Sirius tuner (extension cable is non-keyed so it works on Alpine XM tuner as well). Factory XM tuner is located behind glove box, access from passenger side panel above floormats.

QUOTE (02EnvoySLE Guy @ May 22 2006, 11:24 PM) Excellent information! And very thorough. Thanks for sharing! What do you think of that HU? I've been eyeing one ever since I first installed my CDA-9856 with XM direct and the high speed iPod cable. They're just a little out of my price range at the moment Well, I came from an Alpine CDA-9835 and was dissapointed by the Alpine IVA-W200 limited tuning abilities (bass, treble, and what's equivalent to bass boost). However, simplifying was probably a relief as the CDA-9835 had so many tuning options, it was always difficult to get everything I listened to to sound right. Apparently now Alpine is making the decks simpler because you have to buy a seperate external sound processor, ie for Dolby decoding, etc... but when they are attached, they are fully controllable via the head unit like any other EQ. My main motivation for sticking with Alpine was because I have a Sirius Alpine tuner with a lifetime activation on it. At the time I bought it, Pioneer had one double DIN on the market which wasn't getting the best of reviews. Now they have another out but it's around $2500 with NAV included. Also, Kenwood was just coming out with their double DIN. With Alpine everything is alacarte so you can Nav later, etc... which is what I opted for since I already know how to get to Wendy's. My Trailblazer SS isn't exactly a road trip vehicle anyway, since it's gas mileage is so low.

Does it not work? Says it retains On Star, chime and RAP functions and cost about half as much. http://www.techronics.com/index.Cfm?Fuseac...;OVMTC=standard

I have the interface and I connected all the bose/onstar inface to the radio wires last night, and I am debating to do the sterring wheel controls and it looked more difficult?! did you have a hard time doing this?

Hey guys, I have a question for you about swapping the factory nav with an aftermarket unit. I have the Factory touchscreen, and I'm going to be swapping it out for a kenwood 8019 with bluetooth, nav, and a rear view camera. Also, I'll be installing new amps and speakers. What adapters will I need to get to keep the steering wheel, onstar, and rear seat controls? I've tried looking around but most of the adapters I find don't have very good descriptions of what exactly they do. Thanks in advance Is this the right one GMAH24? I noticed above it has a B on the end, but I think this one is the one to use if you aren't keeping the bose amps? GMAH24For the steering wheel controls, I'm guessing I need PESWIAKJC? PESWIAKJCAnything else? Edit: added links...

Uh, do you guys read? I reference part numbers above for steering wheel controls and the proper wiring harness. The steering wheel interface is not difficult to install, be sure to splice and solder though, as I just crammed the wire in between the factory harness coupler and so every now and then the radio will change stations to the next preset on it's own. The PAC steering interface does not cut out factory buttons as it basically just taps the line and you program it to listen for certain buttons and then it interfaces those buttons to commands your stereo understands.
